I had a cat for seventeen years named Sophie. She was in the studio everyday with me. I was working on this piece when a patron came to see my work. Sophie was laying on one of my sculpting tables and I had jazz playing in the background. When I turned off the music to speak to him about my work, Sophie jumped down, glared at the patron and walked out. When I put the music back on she came back to recline on her table and he said, “Wow, Sophie loves Jazz”... it made me laugh, and it was true and so the piece received its name. Sometimes it happens that way!
